hi guys i know a few of you have these lil guys set up and breeding,

i wanted to combined a combination of a breeding tank and something nice to look at,

so my questions are based on a group of L181 1m 2/3f being homed in a tank just for them

recommended tank size-
amount of caves-
amount of bogwood-
filtration-
circulation-
substrate-
plants?-
temp
ph

thanks in advance,

Dave

Don't have any experience with the L# bn but apparently our peppermint bristlenose are as close to L181s as we gonna get... Any ways here's my opinion:

recommended tank size- 2ft for breeding 3ft for breeding and display (bigger is easier to work with IMO)
amount of caves- females like to hide too so can put 2-3
amount of bogwood- Couple nice sized pieces to provide cover (they more nocturnal fish)
filtration- small canister filter like an Eheim 2213, for current a powerhead (internal filter) that does about 500-600L/h and if you like a sponge filter just for some good old O2
circulation- above
substrate- sand is good as it's easy and quick to clean but it does get messy quickly
plants?- I like my anubias on driftwood as you can move em while gravel vacing. Java fern is also good as it's a harder plant to kill lol
temp- keep them at 26-27 and when you want to trigger them you can turn the heater down to 24-25 after waterchanges
ph- neutral 7 to acidic 5.5

Hope that helps and if any one else got somethin to add be my guest Very Happy

what he said Very Happy

With the larger BN i would go for a minimum of 2.5ft tank.

yup yup all sounds good to me, want to make sure i can get a set up right while there new to my house, get them settled and let them stay settled,

my plan is to give them 3/4 weeks, feed them up, then going to start lowering the ph from 7 down to 6.5, and the temp down to 24 with water changes,

am i best to use algee wafer and cucumber for conditioning ?

then give them a big water change and add in some adler leaves ......

last question, am i suppose to be firing a strong current past the entrance to there caves (ie so cave provide shelter from current ?)

currently i only have a pair but with a bit of luck should be getting a new female in about a week or so (same ish size)

cheers,

Dave
