PostSubject: Tim's not very well...   Fri Jun 04, 2010 10:52 pm

My biggest bn Tim is not very well.
He appears to have a white swelling at the base of his tail, and this appears to be
affecting it, as hes holding the tail fin tightly closed. He appeared restless for the
Past few days, swimming about as opposed to scooting about the bottom and
Sides. He would also have moments of thrashing about in one spot. I noticed the swelling
on Thursday, and affected his swimming, he turned upside -down and waggled about like
That. He appeared drunk, unable to sucker onto things, he appeared to hold his mouth in.
Today, his swimming and suckering are normal, but still has the tail lump.
He is also pale and rather stationary, but that may be due to the hospital tank and slightly over kill filter.
He was treated with fungi and finrot medication on thursday, and was been given revitalizing tonic on friday.
Water levels are normal, and both hospital and main tanks are well oxygenated.

Today (saturday), he has darkened up again, and appears to be behaving normally.

Any ideas? My LFS said it could be a tumour Mad

Does no one have any ideas at all? Even if it's a wild guess, or something I needed worry about at all?
My main thing is if it's something infectious or not, as I would like to move him back into the main tank soon.

Heres some clearer pics I just took:
Not sure where that red spot has come from, it's definatly not there on him.

He was less than impressed at being on his back.

Dabbed his tail with some kitchen roll to removed the shiney water.
He's definatly full of beans today, yesterday he just sorta lat on his back not moving for the photos, today he wiggled his fins, flipped about and allsorts :P Once again it's only on 1 side.

I've been treating for fungal infection with KingBritish, but I think I'll take your advice and get some myxazin or soemthing (my wallet crys).
It does look like it's under the skin, so infection of somesort seems plausable :/

If he is behaving normal again then fingers crossed the treatment may be working.....

As long as it does'nt get any worse then i wouldnt worry to much for now...

but i agree with deano its more than likely an internal infection so what you have been doing already is the best you can do...

i hope he stays in good condition... Very Happy

Sorry to hear Tim is unwell, Hope he recovers fast, I couldn't tell you what it was. Looks nasty, there is no tank mates that could have given him a nip..??
Sounds like you have it under control tho, best of luck with him..

Yeah, I guess 'll just keep up the treatments, and scrimp some money together for some stronger stuff if theres no improvement :P

I doubt it, he's the biggest in there, and his territory is on completely the other side of the tank from the others, up behind the filter. You dont reckon he could of got his tail caught in the workings behind the filter do you? The rack that holds it to the tank? I had a glowlight recently shove itself up behind it and die after scraping itself on it.
Eitherway, he seems to be perking up :P

glad to hear he is one the mend. Looks like it was prob a cut or wood that got infected with fungus or something else. The treatments seem to hav worked. great having the hospital tank handy isnt it. I would maybe give him one more dose of the meds then leave him in the hospital for a week to see how he goes, then back into the main tank which i would treat with broad spectrum anti fungal and bacterial meds...something like melafix and pimafix would be purfect. they are too weak to kill of an infecton but will generally prevent others from becoming infected.

Ah, I thought as much, he's usually chasing the younger plecs off his territory, could have just got over enthusiastic! xD
Yes, hospital tanks are very handy! (Though admittedly, mine isnt set up all the time, I run the filter for it in my main to keep it going :P)
And that sounds like a good plan! Smile
