High deano , those eggs look mighty orange and fertile to me, I'd try to save as soon as the male looks to have lost interest.
Also have you tried tilting the back of the cave into the gravel , so if the male wants to boot the eggs he has to kick them uphill- making it a bit more difficult for to kick them out.
cheers J

So if the eggs are orange, that means they are fertile is that right?

no axel it does,nt they are laid orange these have now turnd white and arnt fertile and have been removed. the male took up residence in a broken piece of plastic tree root and to be honest i didnt exspect them to breed so soon as they have only been in the tank for six weeks. ive now removed the tree root and replaced with a slate cave. so fingers crossed for next time.

the back of the caves are pushed down into the gravel mate on my other tanks but didnt give this pair a slate cave didnt think they would breed so quickly with them being a wild pair and just over the 3 inch mark but im still chuffed though

PostSubject: good luck deano   lda 72 have spawned EmptyWed Jun 30, 2010 1:49 am

deano-not sure if this will help but when my male kick the eggs out early i capture them with a clean spoon or turkey baster and put them in a fry tank... i then put a small algae wafer or bit of cucmber in the fry tank....

i then position the fry tank in line with my fluval 3plus filter....

now when i say inline i mean inline with the outlet venturi attachement....

i usually find that doing this means the extra oxygen from the outlet helps bring on the fry and i have had greater success...

it might not help, but is worth a shot if you have a fairly new fluval lying round in a spare tank.....

i am quite lucky as i always keep one extra filter in my main tank just incase the make kick them out early or by mistake....

it is worth mentioning that my breeding pair seem to prefer empty shells rather than the common slate caves...

but your a dab hand at breeding looking at how many albino's you seem to have had success with...

regards lj

Congrads on the spawn and bad luck that the male booted the eggs.

As far as eggs go, they are indeed laid orange but will turn white if not fertlised in a few days.

ive now got the hang of rearing fry in fry savers and just use the air stone method.
dont think i was doing anything wrong the eggs were never fertile.
i made a thread somewere on here how i reared a batch of L100 ill look it up.
ive also got plents of fillters in my tanks some have three fillters running in case in need to set anothertank up quickly.
