Albino turning red - internal infection? Empty
PostSubject: Albino turning red - internal infection?   Albino turning red - internal infection? EmptyMon Oct 04, 2010 7:22 am

Howdy all Smile

i have an albino bristlenose that has turned red, it looks like he has some sort of internal infection & blood is showing thru his skin. can anyone help me with how i would treat this?

ive been told by the local aquarium that it might go away but he will probably die.

hes been like this for a couple of months now, i removed him from my main tank into a hospital tank, & tried Pimafix & melafix but it hasnt made any difference.

now i have had to move him to a 3rd tank with 2 other albino's & 1 gold severum (160 ltr tank)

water quality is fine in all 3 tanks

Ph 7.4
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

atm im still trying the melafix/ pimafix combo but its not working..

ive heard myxazin could do the trick ? (i have some of this but havent tried it)

ive been trying to get a photo but hes in hiding, as soon as he comes out i will try to post one up.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Luke

This sounds a bit like my BNs have had. The albinos had the appearance of bleeding at the surface but also had swellings in a symmetrical pattern starting on either side of the face then immediately behind the interpercular spines then under the next pair of fins and lastly at the vent opening. I have lost 5 fish before I could get Eshe products. I have now treated the tank with Eshe 2000 and Eshe Exit. I have one female brown BN who has had the symptoms since before I treated with the Eshe and still looks the same but is definately more mobile and started eating again. The bleeding is not apparent on the browns like it is on the albinos but the swellings are the same. I have no idea what the problem is but still have 3 albinos and 2 browns who have shown no symptoms and actually have produced about 40 babies while all this is going on! I took the eggs and cave (and dad) out before they hatched and now they seem ok in another tank while Dad has gone back to the main tank.
I would be very interested to hear how this goes for you and what you treat with etc and the outcome. Good luck any way and all the best for your BN.

Hi June, thanks very much for the reply. Smile

i havent actually noticed any swelling, ive been keeping my eye out for him to try & get a photo but havent been able to yet, as soon as i do i will post it up.

but yes, it looks like he is bleeding under the skin. havent really noticed any other strange behaviour to be honest, he seems normal & like i said hes been like that for quite a while.

i think its is definately some sort of internal infection, questions is what to treat him with, ive never heard of Eshe, is it available online (im in Australia)

Thanks again.
Luke

I'm sure it's on Ebay. I found it in a fish shop but had to travel a bit as my LFS didn't have it. I'm not sure whether it has worked or not as the fish still has the swollen lumps but seems a bit better. I'll try and post a couple of pics.

Pity - would have been good if we could have collaborated. Night night! It's lunchtime here and I'm off out with the dogs. :bounce:

Can you tell me what exactly myxazin is for pls? I have tried Esha Exit and esha 2000 which seem to cover a lot of things. Is myxazin different and can they be mixed? I would really like to cure this little girl I bought as a baby. Sad
