hiya all i have just set up a fluval roma 125 with black gravel ,couple of caves and some new bogwood. the bogwood i did not soak at all just a rinse then straight into the tank, the water went a nice tea colour i have noticed since i moved them that they are more active . so was wondering if this was down to a larger tank last 1 was a 2 footer or is it because of the colour of the water ,if its the colour of the water what would be the best way to maintain it cheers colin.

Have you checked the ph since you added the bogwood. The tannins being released by the bogwood can alter the pH of the water making it more acidic and will soften the water in a similar way that peat does.

You don't say if these are wild L349, if they are they could well prefer the new conditions if the tannins are effecting the ph and hardness, but as I've not kept them so I can not be positive.

It may be a good idea to monitor the ph for it getting lower than it is now, it may suit them now but the tannins could lower the ph further.

yeah, it could be the bigger tank, they prefer the setup or as jim mentioned it could be the lower pH and hardness. hard to know
