In my opinion it is up to what you think, it obviously looks nicer with a light because you can see the fish, but if you want to save on electricity or something go with no light. Overall a light in the breeding tank is not really something you need to worry about. although, in a tank with fry, it is better to have a light because then the fry would be more used to light, and would not be stressed if going to a new tank with a bright light.

Hope this helps Very Happy

The only reasons you "need" to light your tank =
1. to see your fish
2. if you have heavily planted tank - we all "know" that plants need light to thrive.

my Bristlenose seem to breed alot more when the light is on less or reduced, I am now looking at installing blue lighting for
nocturnal viewing in most of my bristlenose breeding and viewing tanks now.

will try to monitor breeding habits and report back..
