The second lot are in my eyes Not common bn's.

2 of them have fine white spots on them but not like my peppermint bn's, the large male on his own has 100's of orange spots all over his body unlike any bn i own.

PostSubject: Re: Alot of plecos to i.d   Alot of plecos to i.d EmptyMon Apr 04, 2011 1:20 am

Righto,

I think the top ones are Ancistrus ranunculus - This is one of the types that we dont get down here in the land of Australia so I can only tell you as much about them as i have read. they are much flatter than the other species of bristlenose. the trick with these fish is the sexing. Unlike most Ancistrus, ranunculus females also get a large amount of bristles growing on their head so all of the normal bristle rules are out the window. Its a bit of a guessing game with the males having more bristles than the females. so line them up along side each other and see if you can spot a difference. as far as i can tell there is an observable difference.

The orange spot bristlenose is one of the ones I am more familar with as I have owned and bred them before. Their L number is a bit of a tricky one to try and def nail down but as far as i can tell its the L182. here is curbys profile on it L182 PROFILE HERE .They are very similar to peppermints in the habits. they are often a bit more shy than the commons and they get significantly larger. They are also darker in colour, though not always. Sexing them follows the same rules and most bristlenose with the females only having bristles along their top lip whereas the males have them running up their nose.

Breaking the law? Shocked

I know certain things aren't allowed in your part of the world but that's a little extreme.

If you ever fancy breaking the law and sending over some of the fanatastic fish you get over there than it's a deal Very Happy

As doug said the first selection of pics are 100% L034 Ancistrus Ranuncalus...

The second pics do look like my male L182 did but they are also looking the same as the Ranuncalus
but the L255 version with white spots but i think i would go for L182.....

Are these for sale?

Ok i'm lost Smile

The second lot of images, is the big male with the orange spots or the pair with fine white spots the l182?

Some of the l034's and the male with orange spots will be going up for sale shortly, the pair with white spots i'd preffer to hold onto until i know what they are but it all depends on how many tanks i can fit into the new house.

right lol the first 11 pics are all L034's Ancistrus Ranuncalus....100%

The male with orange spots is a L182...known as an L182 Gold Spot....i have a very large female and did have a huge male......

And may guess with the one's with the white spots would be L100's/LDA75's...

http://www.bristlenoseworld.com/t950-ancistrus-sp-lda75-l100?highlight=L100

Thats my take on them.......

PM me with prices please..........

Wish i could help you hunni but i have no clue what these fish fetch, i'm happy to part with the male orange thingy as i can't seen to find any others for sale and will be cutting my madusa's down, probably to 2 males 3 females so i'll have 2 for sale. I think the boss wants to keep the l100's more for 'research' and possible breeding notes than anything else, if i can keep a log on them and get some more info on the net to help others with them then all's good.

However i have just been given permission and finally got all my paper work together to open our import shop (plecos, cories and dwarf cichlids of the rarer variety) and as we are now set to move in the new house on Saturday by Monday morning i should know for definate what needs selling as i simply won't have time for all 34 tanks at home and the 40 at work.
