Fry Savers Empty
PostSubject: Fry Savers   Fry Savers EmptySat Apr 30, 2011 6:26 am

I guess this will have been covered here previously, but when doing a seach the only thing that came up was some one asking about using a clothes peg bag...

My questions are:

1. what fry savers do you use..??
2. what are their dimensions..?? (looking for something fairly large about 12"x4"x4"...)
3. what is it made out of..??
4. how would you rate it, and would you recommend it..?
5. where did you get it from..??
6. what did it cost..??

I currently have 3. 2 net ones both about 6"x4"x4" and a plastic 5 in 1 type which is about 7"x3"x4".

The net ones are ok but are really a little small. The good thing about them is that the fry stay in it (holes are the ideal size) and that because its net the water flow through the saver is good. they were also cheap (less than £4) each. However due to the size I'd only rate it 6 out of 10

The plastic one which is supposed to have been designed for live bearers, I'd only rate as 1 out of 10. This is due to the fact that even with the plate in the bottom (designed to keep small fry in) the fry can squeeze down the sides of it and escape out in to the big tank only to become tastysnacks for other fish.... water flow isn't good either definately wouldn't reccomend it..!! Evil or Very Mad

The reason for my questions is the fact that my Bn's have breed, however my fry tank is currently already full with other fry, (mollies, guppies, platys and Bns ) so was going to keep them in the main tank if I can get a decent sized fry saver.

cheers

Jon

I like these ones for bristlenose.

You can get larger breeding nets 10"x 6"x 6" HERE but I don't know if the partitions can be removed or if they can be altered to your needs.

you can also get some that hang on the back with airlift water intakes that look pretty good.

IMO its best to make your own though. That way you can have exactly what you need, just head to the local supermarket and grab a food safe plastic container and then to the hardware store for some aquarium safe silicone and some flyscreen and your are set.
