Just a quick question, For the first time today I noticed one of my males laying on his back, he is breathing normally and otherwise looks unstressed scratch Is this normal?
Please excuse my noobness here but I have never seen this before any help would be great.

It is unusual behaviour and something you should keep an eye on but if the fish is healthy and eating then, unless it spends a lot of it's time on it's back, then I would not worry to much.

There are reports of BN's that while feeding upside down almost fall asleep and just lie there on their backs.

I have a male which often lies upside down in his cave but sticks back to the top if something disturbs him

dont worry, its not what we would call normal behaviour but its def not bad. Some bristlenose do this from time to time. it indicates that they are very comfortable.

I guess you could kind of liken it to sleep walking. They are 'asleep' (the fish version of sleep anyway) and slowly swim out into the open.

think of it as a credit to the comfortable tank he lives in
