Hi Wayne, yes i got him from Tall Trees,do you know anything about them or was you just guessing?

Hi Zigee i got him in Nottinghamshire Smile He is exactly what i was hoping to produce myself so when i saw him I couldn't believe it,i had to have him.Saved me a job of some months or even much longer of trying to produce this colouration myself.I am hoping he will produce at least some with this colouration, would be excellent to get hold of a female like him.

Thanks Jim,I am so glad i came across him.

Still nice looking markings 'bristlenoses', I prefer them to the standard browns. I am after some longfin calicos, but cant find anyone in Sunderland or close by to help me out, ses my thread 'anybody help'.
I have three spare calico females at approx the 2" mark 'wayne', I am looking for a male.

They have some long fins in i think they were commons but don't quote me as I am not interested in long fins so I didn't take a huge amount of notice, baby super reds at about 3 and a half to 4 cm in length, baby black eyed lemons (but to me they always just look like black eyed albinos) they are same size as the baby super reds.I will give them a call in a couple of weeks see what they got.

I think he was £14.99 (which i think is a bargain) but i had a credit note that covered that and i picked up two of the baby super reds as i need some fresh blood.I like to watch them grow so I don't mind the wait.I will grow them on with my 4 baby calicos that i kept back as they are the same size.

Hobby Fish on the A5 near Milton Keynes had some in last weekend, don't know if they still have them, I think they were selling them for £14 as well. Average size was about 4cms + I'd quess. They were calling them orange and brown Bn's.

I picked up a nice longfin albino female about 5" + including fins for £12.

Don't know if the'd post or not. They normally have some great fish in but can be a little pricey. They will however normally do a deal if you are buying several fish.

This is their website www.hobbyfish.co.uk/

cheers

Jon

He is a stunning male indeed Shocked I think the colour adjusts to the tank as I purchased a calico that was almost albino. Living in a tank with black substrate seems to have made him darken up. He's now chocolate brown with orange rings around his eyes lol Smile

Hi Kfenk, all the Calicos I have ever seen as adults have been dark with a few creamy coloured patches. The patches all seem to be in the same place on every fish also.Babies and youngsters are lighter in colour but as they grow they darken up.My wish was to produce a fish exactly like the male i found, that stayed that colour as an adult.I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw him.Obviously it means they are about somewhwere and can be produced.I have had quite a few baby calicos that start off like him but do not stay that colour and it hasn't been anything to do with sustrate in my case as i have very light blue gravel.i am just so pleased to have him. This doesn't mean he will produce babies that stay his colour into adulthood but i am really hoping he might.I am going to put him with a super red female when i can get my hands on one and see what is produced.I am looking forward to see how this first batch of babies turn out,the mother to these is a lovely calico but dark.I would absolutely love to find a female adult the same colour as him.

One of my tanks bust a few weeks back and I had to rehome my pair of adult super reds very quickly for their sake,it was a shame but never mind, they are in a lovely home now Smile I got a new tank and stand yesterday it is a 20 gallon so once I have that sorted I will be back on track Smile
