PostSubject: Frickin White spot   Frickin White spot EmptySat Apr 07, 2012 12:59 pm

Well, it has been well over 3 years since my last dance with the old spot of white so naturally the weekend where i am totally flat out at work is the weekend where i spot the damn stuff in my longfin albino breeding tank Sad

Had a female endler die the yesterday and i thought it was simply the poor old girls time...turns out she was whitespot fatality number 1. Looked in there this evening and the logs were covered with the spots, which means the poor fish are probably riddled with it, poor things. Its impossible to see on the fish as the endlers move too fast and the breeding bristlenose are longfin albinos so its impossible to see on them.

just dosed with copper based meds, upped the temp to 28 degrees and crossed my fingers. I always tell people in the shop that there is no reason with the meds avalaible today that white spot should cause any losses once its identified. lets see if i can prove that right Sad

Best stuff for the dreaded white spot mate is WS3, never fails to cure and can almost clear the problem within 24hrs. I wouldnt be without it, always have some on standby.

Good luck with the meds Doug.

Touch wood I have never had an outbreak since I got rid of some Clown loach that seemed to get it on a regular basis.

Not sure if this question belongs here or somewhere else? If it needs to be moved then perhaps one of our good mods will assist?
My question is has any one found any species of fish that are more susceptible to Ich or is it really just a case of a fish by fish basis and the conditions they are kept in?

Back 30 years ago it seemed Molly's were very suseptible to Ich. Tolerated Salt well, so luckily it was usually an easy fix

well, my whitespot is all cleared up Smile

fish that are usual suspects are loaches and live bearers but all fish can get it. It is a common paracite that is in most tanks in a very low concentration but when fish get stressed it can take over.
