I am thinking of setting up my tank into a heavily planted tank. Which inside it im thinking of housing BN,Cherry Shrimps, either Guppies,Neons or Caridinal Tetras,Fresh Water Oysters to keep water clean and fresh and Discus. If it's ok to house Discus with BN I would go Cardinals and Neons and forget Guppies or maybe get some of them as well. My filtration will be 2x Orca 1400 litres 4 stage External Filter. 2 sponge filters as well as a air curtain. Now what elsewould I need I'm assuming I need a CO2 kit how do I use that and how often would I need to use it. I also saw a link not sure if I need this product. The product is Aquarium Filter 5W UV-C Light Sterilizer Lamp For Fish Tank / Pond up to 3000L. This is were I need info on product. Ie if it is recommended. If it is required could someone explain it as how and what it's required for. Also if I put this in a wrong place I'm sorry. Thanks guys and Cheers Hus

ok...lots of questions in there...

Firstly, discus and bristlenose. normally ok, just watch out if the discus are breeding cos they sometimes like to suck the slime off the sides of the breeding discus.

you have good filtration Smile

CO2 is a good fun thing to mess around with but first things first...its not cheap to do properly and i would not go any other way. dont expect to see any change out of about $600-700. and if you have the CO2 you wont need the airstone as they airstone will knock the co2 out of the water and it would be a waste.

UV is awesome. however, a 5watt unit is going to be next to useless. I use a 9 watt one on both my big tanks and its awesome!! it is a unit that emits UVc light and it kills everything, algae, fungus, bacteria, parasites...eveything. its awesome!!

i know lots more about that but its late and im tired and cbf writing more Need help, ideas on setting up a 220 litre/48 gallon tank 1514952399

Could I still have that setup but use an airstone without CO2 or would the CO2 be required and forget the airstone as you said. If you said I need CO2 should I remove the sponge filters as well. I need an airpump to work my spounge filter. Finally how often would I still need to do a 2 x 25% water change per week. I'm thinking of housing in it 4 Discus,8 BN,6 Fresh Water Oysters, approx 20 each of Cardinal Tetras,Neons,Guppies or is that to much. If it to much what would you recommend per species please. Thanks cheers guys

that is a lot of stuff for a 4ft tank. Discus like to be in groups of at least 5, they are the only true schooling cichlid and well be much happier in a larger group. The bristlenose should be ok as long as you do not have too many males, 3-4 males max and i would not expect to see much breeding action as they will be too busy watching their back. With the discus i would def be doing at lest 2 x 25% changes every weeks...minimum! Discus are very touchy fish and need very high quality water. When i kept them it was 20% every three days normally, and constant monitoring of the pH.

for stocking levels check out this website www.aqadvisor.com

no bubbling air with co2. it is a very fine ballance that can take a while to get right and is lethal if wrong...trust me i know Sad but you need to stop all of the things that normally add o2 to the water as they are going to knock the co2 out and the whole thing would have been a waste of time. its awesome when it is all going but it can be a heart breaking thing to setup.
