I found some eggs unattended in view under a driftwood. No male is around guarding it or fanning it. My concern is it hasn't been sen buy the Discus as yet as I'm assuming they would eat it. I also don't no if it's my Common BN or from my Peppermints. I also don't have a tumbler or I can't make one either. I'm thinking of leaving them be until they hatch or cOuld I just chuck the eggs into a little tank that I have got cycled atm.

have you got an airstone & a frysaver or even a sieve?

Put them in with the airstone & they will be fine.

I scoop mine out with a cup and sit them on top of the tank whilst i am setting it all up, that way i dont have to try "fish" around the bibbler & saver while trying to get hold of the eggs.

You have a couple of choices to take care of them.

Firstly you can find any caved male and gently pop them back into his cave, provided he is fanning of course. I had to do this a couple of times until I built my egg tumbler as the male kept fanning too hard and a bunch got dislodged from his cave.

Or you can do as Chaase said and put them in some form of frysaver. You can put them into the cycled tank (don't forget to acclimatise them) with an airstone, just make sure you can physically see there's aerated water washing over them (tiny bubbles in the water moving around them).

Fungus can and often does start to grow if they are left unattended, and in my tumbler I tend to like the water being just fast enough that it makes the eggs softly bounce around. That way I know they are getting a good water flow over them.

You can buy a breeder trap (large cube-sized net that hangs inside the tank) and put an airstone in that, or a frysaver. They're very cheap, less than $15 bucks depending on the size.

Hope that helps. Let us know how it goes! Smile

Yeah they should do, don't forget the airstone. :P
If its got relatively big gaps in it though then you might want to use it as a temporary thing before the eggs hatch, the fry might not swim exactly but they still are sneaky enough to escape if they can fit. If your fighter container has gaps to share the same water as your tank, then maybe put some cloth over the gabs so water can still flow through but the fry can't run away.

But anything is worth a try, improvise as best you can, and cross your fingers all goes well. Cool

Just an update moved them the eggs from my community tank to a seperate 2 feet tank which has 1 adult male and 2 medium sized female Albino LF BN. As I moved them saw the tail out and sought of swimming around the tank so that means they hatched.

That's great to hear. They'll be safe in there if you have only BNs in that tank with them. Keep a close eye on them at this stage, they are very vulnerable to changes now that they've hatched. Are you able to take some pics at all? :P

I'll try but there was only 13 eggs and they all hatched. They are not standing still they will move around the tank is that normal.

Normal as I can tell, when I got escapees from the cave they would wiggle across the gravel without a care in the world. When in the cave however, they tend to cluster together. They have to wiggle frequently I think, maybe to stop any fungus that might want to grow on them, I'm not 100% sure on that. Even in my tumbler they're constantly wriggling ever few seconds, flash light on them however and they tend to wriggle a lot faster, being sensitive to bright light. So yeah, wriggling is normal, and cute too.
In a few days they will become free swimming, when their egg yolk is gone they will start to eat the food you give the tank. But I wouldn't give the tank any extra food, the amount you currently feed should be adequate for them until they're a bit bigger.

i have found if u put them in a container that is able to have fresh water flushed threw it consistently and put in front of u filter it will be fine, with the water coming out of the filter being clean as long as they don't move around to much should be all good. that is if they are fertile that is. i have a male who gets eggs laid for him all the time and he never fans just sits their waiting for more females to lay for him
