Hi Guys,

hopefully you can offer some advice. My breeding male albino doesn't look too good. He got caught in a hole he wriggled into in a sponge in my tank.

Anyway, he's out now, when I got him out though, I could see where he had been constantly rubbing when trying to wriggle out and it looked very sore and was all white.

Two days on, I just went to check on him now upon getting home from work and there's a lot of furry kind of growth on his wounds, both on his nose (bristled area) and part way along his tail on the underside. It looks almost like mould does in that it's white and as I said before has a furry type of appearance, he's still moving around a bit and is fanning his fins.

Will he be ok, do I need to Quarentine him?

Cheers,

DAmien

Forgot to add that he was also VERY red around the sore area outside of where it was white.

Cheers.

Tank size and setup: 200Lt Half a dozen pieces of wood around the size of a hand one limestone rock and about half a dozen breeding caves

Substrate: silicate sand

Airstone/sponge filter etc: 3 Sponges running from manifold

Inhabitance: Sick Male Albino BN, 3 female albinos Bns, about 30-50 albino fry, 4 small (~3-4cm) Peppermints, 1 L168

Fish affected by issue (all/bottom dwellers, all bristlenose or a single fish etc): Just the one

Feeding system (what, how much, how often): Par boiled veggies and wafer alternating days with a day's break at times. Veggies two slices of Pumpkin, Zucchini, cucumber (notcooked), or broccholi stem. Wafers, 4-6 at a time

current water change system (before illness appeared): 20% once a week with a 50% every month or so

water changes made since illness appeared: None, going to do one later today

As many levels as you know (pH, Ammonia, nitrate, nitirite, KH, GH, TDS, aanything you can find out, your local fish shop should be able to help with this):

PH: 7.2
KH: 5
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: <20

any chemicals used (including carbon/chemical fitration inside the filter): Nil

water source and treatment: Tap, API conditioner

Major changes in the last 3 weeks (new fish, new plants, new anything or changes): Nil

Symptoms (gasping, not moving, bloated, spots, wounds, stressed colours etc): White fluffy growth on wounds created from rubbing continuously when stuck in hole in sponge. Immediate area surrounded by red. He is fanning a lot and is moving around the tank, he seems quite lively still.

Pictures:None yet.

sounds like a fungal infection.

Cos of the fry i would hit the whole tank with pimafix and then take him out and medicate him with an anti-fungal medication. I personally like fungus-aid. works really well. just remember to hit at half dose.
