PostSubject: Ideal Tank Size? I'm confused!   Fri Jun 29, 2012 6:27 am

I would really like to set up a tank and eventually have a setup with a Common Bristlenose, a group of 6 Rummynose Tetras and maybe a Siamese Fighting Fish.

My question is how big would the tank have to be?
I have been trying really hard to research, but there are a lot of contradictions in what I have read. I dont want to jump straight in and I want a tank which will allow the Bristlenose to grow to its full size.

Also how big a tank would I need if I wanted 2 male bristlenose instead of 1?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help and advice

rule of thumb is 1.5 square ft of tank bottom per male.

So if you wanted 2 males you would be looking at a standard 3 ft tank.

if you only had one male, for the fish you want i would look at a 2ft tank, normally about 60-80 ltrs

Ok cool thank you both. Thats about what I was expecting.

Would my stocking be fairly high then? Or would I be able to add a few more ruddynose?

Are you having any females Bns in there as well or just one/two males. ?

If you are going to have females as well then you will soon be over stocked...!!

cheers

Jon

LOL! No definately not keeping any females.
I have decided to just go with the one bristlenose. I hope I get a male but willl be happy either way.

How is my stocking if I get a 70 litre tank? Would 6 rummynose and 1 Siamese Fighter be about the limit I can keep?

Thanks for all your help Very Happy

in a 70ltr tank you could get away with a few more fish, depending on the filter setup you have.

Well I have the tank! 70 litres and I got it for $70 cause it was on special!

I am a little bit frustrated because I have been forbidden the use of the furniture I was planning to use as a stand, so now I have to go out and buy one of those before I can start cycling my tank >.<

But I am still super excited xD

Edit
Found a sturdy little coffee table buried under a massive bookshelf upstairs, so that problem is sorted out now Smile

Shopping spree tomorrow to get filter, heater and hopefully substrate Smile

I am happy with the coffee table, it is sturdy, and already has a plastic book cover attached on top, so waterproof. Plus it is a great size for me to view tank from my bed.

I have new questions sorry to be a pain but I want to do this properly.
I set up filter and heater in tank today, got an Aqua One heater, and an Internal AquaMaid filter for 100 litre tank.

After watching the massive flow from the filter, I have decided a Siamese Fighter won't work, so here is my new stocking idea. How Does it sound?

6 Zebra Danios
1 Dwarf Gorami
1 Common Bristlenose

PostSubject: table   Tue Jul 03, 2012 2:00 pm

make sure the coffee table is strong enough to hold that kind of weight . you don`t want it to break down after you fill it with water or even after 6 months if it breaks you have a huge mess to clean up.

I think it shold be fine, it was buried under a massive bookshelf for the last few years. I filled the tank up today and it seems to be fine.

im glad , i had a friend that used a coffee table that she thought was solid but after about 5 or 6 months of holding all that weight it gave way and flooded her living room.

Guh! now I am paranoid. I will let the heater cool and drain the tank, tomorrow will go in search of something even more sturdy.

What do you think of my stocking?
