Hi all

I am getting back into fish after a 15 year break, both the wife and myself love bristle nose plecos of all types esp the peppermints.

I will be setting up a 5ftx24inx18in tank and was wondering what different type of bristle noses will live together and how many in that size tank?

Mollies, guppys', platties, the only thing I won't keep with mine are sucking catfish as they have a tendency to go into the bn's breeding caves and logs.
Other than that I think you should be okay.

yeah, when it comes to tank mates there are few things that do not go. If you are breeding the bristlenose then loaches are a no no as they eat the eggs. If you are breeding discus the bristlenose can develop a taste for the slime coat that feeds the fry.

apart from that remember that bristlenose are amazonian fish and like low pH with soft water, so mixing them with African cichlids can be tricky simply cos of water differences

PostSubject: Loaches   What can be kept together EmptySun Jul 22, 2012 6:13 pm

Greetings from Germany!

About keeping loaches and bristlenose cats together: I have six loaches in my aquarium, and they do not bother my L-144 catfish at all, nor have they eaten their eggs. I have heard that they can be a problem with timid catfish (such as L-46, which I also have) when it comes to competing for food. However, this hasn't been a problem so far.
