PostSubject: How many bn in a 200 l tank?   How many bn in a 200 l tank? EmptyWed Aug 01, 2012 10:03 am

Hi, looking for some advice on this one, read lots of differing advice already....

We have a 5 cm bn in our 100 l tank with five small plants (15cm) and two medium pieces of driftwood. There are also glowlight tetras, swordtails and guppies in there too, all living nicely together.

My son has asked for another bn for a birthday present, and we were going to get him an albino one. Do you think that the tank is large enough for two or would we be mad to put two in this tank? Would hate to have avoidable problems from lack of research/knowledge! Our bn is just an ordinary one as far as can tell, bought from a chain of pet stores.

Appreciate that all fish are different and any two may clash even when on paper all might be fine, but would like to know if this would be a big no no!

Thanks

Su

Now im not sure if you either have the 200L as you wrote in the title or 100L you wrote in the thread but this should help you either way Very Happy

http://www.aqadvisor.com/

I think another bn wouldnt hurt either way but to be honest aqadvisor has the best info for tank stocking that all aquarium hobbyists new and old should use cheers

yeah, either way you will be fine.

If you get two males you need to make sure that there are at least two spots to hide so they have one each

Thanks guys, its a 200 l tank , teach me not to multitask when asking questions...

I did use aqadvisor and it didn't red flag it, so will go ahead next week Very Happy

Having read a couple of threads on here think ours may be a girl, as two little bristles are present at the sides of the mouth but none going up towards the eyes, although think its a young one so may not have developed all the bristles yet....at anyrate, its a 1 in 4 chance of getting two males and hopefully the tank will be big enough.

Cheers

Su

Ah, right, will check out some threads and see if 5 cm is about the size when they start getting bristles or if it is looking like a male.....

I'm sorry let me re phrase that. Common bn and the other morphs don't get any bristles on the females. Well in my experience they don't. Iv never ever had a female with any sort of bristles. So going by that, in my opinion at that size I'd say it would have to be a male.

Ah well, fingers crossed the new one will be a female! Will go for the biggest bristle free one, or send lots of peace vibes their way Very Happy . Or just get a third peice of driftwood and some more plants. Last way sounds tempting, always fiddling with the tank at the mo!
