PostSubject: Tank advice    Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:54 pm

Hi guys,
Im new to b/n so would like to run my tank by yous to see how it
measure's up. I purchased a breeding group of a friend and didn't
have long to set the tank up for them but I think it's ok as they've
bread 3 times in 8 weeks and the larger males guarding eggs again.

The tank is 36x18x15 inch, it's the bottom tank on a rack I have,
All my tanks have undergravel filters and a 500lph sponge filter,
I know not everybody like UGF's but I love them. Never had any
problems with them. I have 3 large pieces of bog wood and square
pipes to hide in and also just added a coconut shell halved in two
as caves.
Now the thing is the plecs have bread 3 times now and I'm over run
with young, but I've no more tanks to put them in, all other tanks have
malawi fry in them. Will it be ok to grow them on in the one tank or
I was thinking to separate the males and females to stop the breeding
just now.

Cheers steven

Hi Steven this is what happens when breeding bristlenoses as they will keep going and going and so you always need an extra tank or two or a spare tank to put the females into for a while so that you have time to grow the fry up and sell them or rehome them. You need to seperate them now before the tank gets too overpopulated.

Thanks for the quick reply, so should I take the females out and leave the
males in there. I can put the female in with my malawi cichlid fry in a
48x15x18.

Yes i would remove the females and leave the males in with the fry.I know nothing about malawi tanks,is it o.k for bristlenoses? If you don't know it may be best to ask the people that know about it first.

The adult female would be ok with the cichlids if they are fry, adult mawalian on the other hand (depending on species) could/would kill the new addition. I have adult BN with my tangs but not with the malawi cichlids as i have lost some trying it. DLJ
