Hi,

I have successfully bred alb shortfin in numbers.

I have recently started on lf
My big male longfin has just produced his 3rd batch in as many months.

In the first two batches I had well over 100 fry that's being very conservative.

I struggle to see more than 12 baby lf at any one time in the tank at the moment.

Finally my question

Do they have a high mortality rate?
Do they hide more ?

With the sf as soon as they are fed bristlenose everywhere, with the lf nothing.
Is it possible that many of them are hiding ?

the problem with longifns is that they are rarer so they are more often inbred and that can lead to problems. where did you get the breeders from?

I got them from Adelaide,

I mentioned in previous post I got 3 lf commons, 1m 2f, from first two spawns the male mated with both females, I got a fairly equal number of alb marble and commons. There would have been close to 150 fry.
Now I can only see about 5 of each at any one time.

Not happy Jan, Longfin inquiry 484291715

I better start looking for a lf marble male.

Haven't noticed any dead fry in the tank at all,

Parameters are good, I recently bought some tiny Crystal reds and they seem to be thriving.

Since I started breeding the bn from literally hundreds, possibly more, I have only ever seen maybe 2 dead fry.

Your right if they where dead I would have seen the carcass.

Maybe there is still hope Longfin inquiry 1650918589

nope, the shrimp will be eating the bodies. and if the shrimp are thriving then it may be that your hardness and pH are too high.
