PostSubject: anybody know much about genetics?   anybody know much about genetics? EmptyMon Aug 31, 2009 8:22 am

I have had quite a few spawns with one of my common brown males, all with different females. 3 of which have been from an albino female. although out of all of the eggs she has laid, none of them have been albino. like not even 1? I have been told that this is because the brown gene is more dominant than the albino gene.
This got me thinking... what would the result be if I spawned my Albino shortfin female with my common brown longfin male? would I end up with common longfins or albino shortfins? surely i cant end up with brown common shortfins again?
cheers in advance.

Ah, but you can end up with more brown short fins and probably would.

Do you know the background of your brown long fin? If there is albino behind him, and it is the same genetic type as your albino short fin (and there are at least 2 types of albino) then you could get some albino

Generally speaking short fin seems to be dominant to long fin, but I suspect there may be two genetic types of long fin......so the genetics here are a bit fuzzy.

If you make this cross, post what you get, it will help figure out the genetics, especially if you get anything other than brown short fin.

If you want albino fry, take a brown son of your albino female and cross it back to her. In theory you should get statistically 50-50 browns and albino.
