Looking for an answer about breeding reds Empty
PostSubject: Looking for an answer about breeding reds   Looking for an answer about breeding reds EmptyFri Nov 01, 2013 11:11 pm

I have been breeding bristle nose for a while now, and have 7 different pairs or trios consisting of browns, albinos, greens, reds, L144, and mixed (albino m/ brown f, and so on).
I have a young trio of super reds that I grew out from fry. The two females were fry my big pair, and I grew the male from an inch long, that I got from another party. I finally got them to spawn, and they have spawned three times now. Here is the issue, all three times, the eggs were fertilized, and the male was guarding them and fanning away. Each time when the eggs were about to hatch, the male would kick them out of the cave, and I would find the eggs scattered around the tank, and find some of what looks like the clear shell of popped eggs still inside of the cave, or around the tank. Each time, the male was taking great care of the eggs, right up until the day or the night before I was expecting them to hatch.
So here is the questions- Is the male just young, and doesn't have enough experience yet, and is just still learning? Is there a problem with the male? Is there a problem with the eggs, and that's why he keeps kicking them out? Is there a possible other issue, like someone getting too close to the cave, and he just a little over doing it when trying to keep them covered up to protect them, and accidentally be booting them out?
I have never had this issue ever before, and the cave they are using, has been used by other pairs, or trios in the past with out a problem, and the inside is real rough with no smooth surfaces.
The trio is in a 20gal tank, with gravel, plants for hiding, and there is only two Cory cats in with them to clean up scraps of algae pellets, and fresh veggies.
Any advice, or ideas would be great! Thanks:WTF:

It's strange. My calico male did this for several months, it seems to have stopped now. I wonder, maybe it is an age related thing.

Maybe offer him a different cave? Something longer maybe?

Could be inexperience or it could be something else. There are some males that just get too carried away and will blow their eggs out every time Sad
