| the nitrate test kit needs to be very well shaken to get the right reading. I know i have failed to do this once or twice (or more), gotten readings that make no sense and pondered the situation, life, the universe and everything until i realised i forgot to shake the bottles | |

| What water conditioner you using mate cause have read that get false reading if using prime. I personally cannot confirm or dismiss this claim but would at least take into consideration. | |

| I just tested my tank before I did a water change, poor fishies.
Ammonia 2.0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 160+
WOWOWOW, my poor fish. I am waiting till after dinner to let everything settle down (after water change) to see how it's changed. Hopefully for the better. I also added a few floating plants, hopefully this helps. The fish don't appear to be in any distress which is odd. Either way, weekly water changes for this tank is not enough! It takes so long to test all the tanks, I have about 12 or so. I am going to test the main display tanks in a little bit. | |

| For the weekly tests of that many tanks it might be easier to get the strips, and only move onto the drop tests (much more accurate) if there is something out of the norms | |

| Just re tested the tank and everything seems WNL now.
Ammonia: .25 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10
Do you think one water change can do that much!? It's been maybe 10 days tops since the last one.

| 90% change maybe otherwise no I don't think it was your probably better off buying a new nitrate test if your having that many problems with this one. | |
