Albino BN Question Empty
PostSubject: Albino BN Question   Albino BN Question EmptyTue Sep 24, 2013 6:03 pm

We have two albino BN's that shoot us about 50/50. The last two times I have noticed what I would call a white BN, an albino BN and the brown BN.

Any ideas? Or will these white babies turn to the regular albino color? (orangish)

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I've tried to upload a picture but for some reason it's not working. I must not be smarter than the computer.

the white albino bristlenose seem to pop up every now and again. I used to get one or two every albino x albino spawn. They appear to be a much truer albino than the normal yellow looking ones.

They are not a tough at normal bristlenose and need a bit of extra care. raise one up tho and they are so beautiful! I once saw a longfin whitle brisltenose and WOW!!! What a stunner!

hdbikersbabe, any update on these white albinos? I have a few of them too. Are yours not as hardy like Doug experienced?

PostSubject: The "White" Albino   Albino BN Question EmptySat Mar 15, 2014 12:27 am

This topic has been brought up at least once before, but I thought I'd chime in on it too.  I have 4 of these white albinos.  In the first picture you can see one of the "white" albinos compared to a "normal" albino.  And the white guy is in the second pic.

These are approximately 1.5'-2" juveniles.

Has anyone grown these to adulthood or bred them with anything?  I figured I could at least hold them back and keep track of how they progress.

Yes, I have raised the, all the way through but I never bred with them as I know them to be a weaker line and breeding a weaker line didn't make business sense. I raised a SF female through to adulthood but I sold her to a mate who lost her among all his other fish during a power failure.

Thanks kolkri Smile

Doug, how did you determine them to be a weaker line? My 4 appear to be healthy and growing at a similar rate to their siblings. They were bred from unrelated parents; lf calico X lf common. What should I be looking for in terms or hardiness?

Yep, that's simple enough. A friend of mine owns a LFS and he says he gets in the bright white ones occasionally with his shipments. He says they always die and are about the same size as you reported them disappearing.

This is discouraging :/ I definitely don't want to sell these or distribute them publicly in any way. It's too risky at this point with their known sensitivity. I am afraid that they will be perfectly fine with me because they have been hatched and house in the same conditions but who know how they'll handle the stress of being brought into a new environment. I would hate for someone to be really excited about their new fish and end up sadly disappointed.
