PostSubject: Baby Starlights?   Baby Starlights? EmptyTue Nov 24, 2009 9:35 pm

I have just purchased 5 baby starlight plecs from a LFS, not sure exactly what they are as they were just labelled up as bristlenose in the shop but def a form of starlight
I reckon either L181 or L100 but just too small to tell cannot wait till get a bit older to find out Very Happy

Will try to get some pics in a few days when settled into tank
2 look like have some small bristles I'd sy they are circ 1.5-1.75inch, just could not resist them, they look so cute...

I know I have 2 x L182 which are circ 3.5-4inch which I have had since 1inch and were different to these.

It's now a waiting game till they get older so I can see what I have got lol

There must be a rush on these type of fish at present. My sister just picked up three small ones for what I thought was a pretty good price. She appears to have 2 females and a male but they are small so hard to be certain. We're not sure exactly what they are but they look really similar to these. The shop had no clue what they were. There is another shop selling some which look really similar, again without a real positive ID. Someone suggested possibly Rio Ukayali or something like that but I have no clue.

I was thinking you might have L059's Jagtazman, the juvies look very similar to Spreeboks fish.
Looking through the cat-alogues the L059 does have a black apearence but also carries orangey
coloured spots on the leading rays of the pectoral and dorsal fins.
But hey you know what I.Ding skills are like.
cheers J

well hopefully give it a few months and time will tell
down to 3 unfortunately, 2 died no idea why gutted but they were smaller than i normally get
one has 2 small bristles showing and is growing faster than the others so i reckon ones a male
santa
Interesting re L059 I know of a LFS that tells me gonna be getting some of these soon. but we will see
Not sure mine have the orange tinge thou
When I got them there were no markings on the tail, no white tinge or anything but not they have a different colour tip of the tail, not exactly white tbh
they are now in my new pleco tank with the L309's and my L034, none of them come out much but will try to get some photos before the years out

I have about 4 (I think) "starlights" which look almost the same as the one in the banner with the santa hat. They look really similar to the ones my sister just purchased but hers have a few less spots and brownish orange on their pectoral fins (and probably other fins). We haven't been able to positively ID the "starlights" and with so many fish looking the same and not being able to identify the source of these fish, I think a positive ID is wishful thinking.

I'm in NZ Jag.

Just to rub salt into the wounds, it seems here there is about to be an absolute glut ofL270 chocolate zebras within a year or so. One guy got them breeding and has sold dozens of breeding groups to other fishkeepers and his F1 generation has also started breeding so the ones he sold will soon be breeding as well. I know he has had offers of $370 Australian if he can get these fish into the country. Here he's selling them for around $30.

Guys I think these are L059 Very Happy
Starting to get an orange tinge on the tails
Unfortunately lost 2 of them, however i went back and got 6 more today.
If anyone is interested got them from Hampson Pet World at the garden centre in Durkar, just off junction 41 of the M1
£5 each, still had around 15 or so left this afternoon

Looks like I have 2 males and 1 female from the first batch and I think I have 3/3 or 2/4 from the second batch judge by the mouth and small bristles on the mouth, but again early days.
