High 77maverick, reference as many foto's as you can , if they are selling "albino PLECS" @ albino B/n prices I'd grab the lot , grow them out for 12 months and then clean up. Once you know what your looking at it shouldn't be to hard to tell if they are bristlies or PLECS( Gibbiceps), all though both of them are still in the family "Loricariidae)

Where are you form 77maverick ? I'm only guessing the US due to you using the $ currency and having walmart.
$3.50 is a good price for Albino B/N's but an absolute cracking price for Albino gibby's -- only draw back is that
albino gibby's don't attract a great price like some of the other species, still in OZ you'll pay $50-$70 for a baby
albino gibby.

An albino gibby will have a more square robust shaped head where as the bristlies slopes down giving the fish an almost flat appearance.

Yup definately common ABN, by the way is that galvinised nail I spy holding down the zuchinni? Swap it out for
a stainless steel teaspoon 77maverick, I'd hate to imagine what heavy metal traces are leeching off of that thing -
you can also notice the nail starting to discolour now - the stainless teaspoon "won't" leech anything.

77 maverick, what part of Kentucky are you in? I'm in Simpson County. Our local Walmart also had two BNs, and at $4.50 I bought them both. I was concerned for their safety, and the store didn't seem interested in the advice I offered them. My two look just like yours, just babies. I have an older one from last year, a female I think. Hopefully I can have some pics up soon. Good luck with your new ones.

Oh I'm so sorry. That's why I normally don't do walmart fish, (the only thing from there to survive has been two of my daughter's commons...3 yrs to date.) but when my daughter found these two I had to "rescue" them. It's been 3 days since we bought them and both are filling them out well, including the weaker of the two. If you live near Bowling Green, Fishy Business had one or two nice baby albinos for $3.50 I believe.

On my visits to the States in the past few years, I was horrified to see how fish were being sold in places like Walmart. Here the RSPCA would have 'em closed down in a heartbeat.

The problem with mercy purchases is that it perpetuates the selling, coz as long as someone buys 'em, they'll continue to sell 'em. Bit like the goldfish at the fair syndrome. As cruel as it is, continuing to "rescue" them is why it continues. They ain't doing anyone a favour, they are in bags that aren't oxygenated, and they are paying less than 10p a fish. I know, I've seen the local distributers price list Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Basically, in the long run it's better for future fish not to get them from such places.

Sorry for the rant, but it really does break my heart.

Oh I know, and trust me that was on my mind the whole time......like I said I never buy fish from there. Albinos are hard to find in my area, and I only know of one LFS that carries BNs. At least with them being walmarts "Fish of the month" for January, if they don't sell well, or if their too much trouble to keep alive, they will stop carrying them. Until then I'll have to keep to the supply section and let my 11 year old daughter look at the fish and fuss just loud enough for passers by to hear whats wrong with the fish. Hey, it got them to feed their fish more often and treat the goldfish for ick. Very Happy

i also never buy from walmart, but took the chance on these guys. had an extra tank up and cycled and did not have any albinos at the time. walmart is the only store within about 30 miles of my house. usually buy on line. won't buy from walmart again!

I lost the weaker of my two, but the other is still going great. I bought another baby albino and my favorite LFS tonight, and it seems to be healthy and is very active. Again I swear never to buy another walmart fish.....no matter how cute.
