Has anybody ever had any of these?

I had one of my sailfins die the other day (old age I think and hope.....he was fully grown when I got him). Female BN was grazing on his lifeless fishy corpse.

I've been interested in these for a while and have done the research on them. So yesterday instead of getting Oreo's and milk I went and bought one.

AH yes! These guys are awesome looking! Saw several of them in aquatics shops last year, they always had a sign on the tank saying 'I am not dead, I just look like it!' xD

Its an awesome fish. Doesn't move until feeding time. Won't eat anything but live food either. Watching a helpless cricket get stalked by a fish is an experience!

PostSubject: rare butterfly fish for Bristlenose members :)   African Butterfly Fish EmptyMon Nov 15, 2010 8:19 pm

I know this is a little old this thread but I am posting something of interest.

I have one of these for sale or swap right now....

http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail51_195359.php

eats well on flake food, occasional blood worm, small guppies and various insects.

will take £5.00 but must be pick up only from Rotherham, in south yorkshire.

kind regards

Lj

PostSubject: South African Butterfly fish keeping and feeding?   African Butterfly Fish EmptyMon Nov 15, 2010 8:22 pm

wanted to say it is a lovely fish but started to breed show quality guppies,
and having one of these in the tank means all my guppy fry are being eaten.

it is important to remember that these are mainly top dwelling fish, and can jump above water,
so must go in a covered aquarium, and need to be cared for with live food occasionally.

rarely seen over here in yorkshire so wonder how many have been seen in the uk?
