| she is gulping air for the surface. It means that your O2 in the tank is low. best thing to do is to wack an airstone in there. if you dont have an air pump or are unable to for some reason then move the filter so that the outflow causes ripples on the surface.
Bristlenose are sensitive to O2 levels as they come from a whitewater habitat where O2 is at 100% all the time

| how does the airpump put the air into the water? an airstone is a very porous bit of rock that causes the air to bubble out in very fine bubbles. they are the single best way to oxygenate your water | |

| yeah, thats a modified airstone, commonly called an air curtain. I wuld suggest that with that running your water has plenty of O2 in it.
Next thing to check would be to see what she is actually doing when she goes up. Does she break the surface? if so do you see her blowing bubbles past her gills as she dropps back down? If she is doing that then she is still gasping which could indicate one of the other water parameters is a bit off, pH, high ammonia, high temp, etc. will all cause this.
fi she isnt breaking the surface but just shooting upwards then she could be trying to avoid some sort of conflict or fight.
I think the best best is to try and see what happens just before and during these runs to the top.
