I can't believe this!!!
Link to the idiots

Why would anyone sell or even buy an arapaima??? Link to Info

Having seen shows about these fish, one wonders who has the tank space for a fish that grows to 8 foot!!!

Complete madness.

There should be a campaign against this ridiculous selling of monster fish to the unwary/uncaring <sigh> No No No

I totally agree Deano

I posted about this on Sheffield Forum too, the local fish rescues will be waiting with baited breath on having to rescue these along with RTC's, pleco's, shovelnose etc.

I think ALL fish shops should ensure that all fish they sell can be suitably housed for life, and maybe tank busters should be licensed.

We knew someone that had an 8 foot tank (they got rid of it) but even that won't house a full sized RTC, never mind an Arapaima!!

I sometimes wonder where folk keep their brains LOL lol! lol! lol!

Personnally I'd love a tank/pond big enough to house some of the monster "Hypostomus" species that grow to a meter, but you all know I'm kinda daft Laughing
cheers J

Aye J, but there's a difference between wanting and being realistic.

Now, if ya won the Lotto I'm sure it'd be a slam dunk, but the realities are somewhat more sobering.

There was an article in PFK a few years back about a chap who has converted an entire room into a large freshwater aquarium to keep these "monsters" (well maybe not these but certainly very large catfish and freshwater rays). Some lovely pictures - and he snorkels with them to clean the glass. There really should be tighter controls about the selling of large fish. Even my excellent LFS shifts large amounts of Plecos to completely owners with unsuitabley small tanks.

Oh wow, if you can find any pics let us see! Very Happy
And yeah, it's annoys me when you get one like 'Oh, I have a common pleco and it's going to outgrow my tank what do I do?', Durr, common sense please. I mean, places like pets@home may generally have abad rep for fish, but at least they got the whole 'no your tanks too small' thing down :/
