Ancistrus SP. Xenocara - Gymnorhynchus (Rothschildi)

Pretty rare species of Ancistrus - Not often found in Pet Shops and usually are imported.


Fish Statistics: Very similar in looks to the Ancistrus cf. Cirrhosus, however they are much chunkier and grow much bigger than a standard Cirrhosus, reported 6" and live much longer than the common Bristlenose some have reported as long as 15 years....


Minimum Tank Size:140 Litres - 30.7 Gallons (Consider a ratio of 1 male to 2 females within the minimum tank size)

Diet: Omnivorous The bulk of their diet must be composed of vegetable matter but live foods can be feed.Algea Wafers and courgette are among favourite's..

Origin:Puerto Cabello, Venezuela

Temp 24 to 27 (C): or 75.2 to 80.'F (27'C Known to be best)

Max Size: 5.3" 14CMs (Known to reach 6")

Family:Loricariidae

Temperament: Harmless Species - However Males are very territorial especially when guarding eggs and young ones, likely to shush any other species away during the breeding/raising process.

pH: 5.8 to 7.0

GH (Hardness): 5-15

Care Level: Average - Above the usual species of Ancistrus.

Behaviour: Slightly Aggressive

Breeding: No breeding Reports - However with most Ancistrus Species triggering a spawn can be done by simply doing a water change and Imitating rain fall which naturally reduces the water temperature in the wild to around 21'C...
