Plastic perspex in the aquarium... Empty
PostSubject: Plastic perspex in the aquarium...   Plastic perspex in the aquarium... EmptyThu Sep 16, 2010 6:49 pm

I'm trying to get around the way of breeding my bristles in with my Kribs and decided the best thing to do would be to section off some of my tank!

So a guys offered me a price on eBay for some Plastic perspex to divide my tank but I just wanted to make sure its actually aquarium safe?!

Has anybody used it before to DIY your own divider? Or is there any other material people would recommend that doesnt cost a bomb?

Theres also PVC sheeting (clear) ive been looking at, which would be best?

I don't like the look of the sponge material, but I did consider it.

I'm not the best at knowing my materials xD

Thanks for any help!

Abbie I did once use a square fishing griddle wrapped with a large ladies stocking......

it was then fastened to the sides with suckers...

this allowed water to run through freely and also keep any small fry from going between the tanks..

you would need a sponge filter in both sides for this to work effectively though Smile

Thanks for the replies, I'll probly give the perspex a go and drill some very tiny holes in it (small enough for any fry to not go through!)

I want to setup a sponge filter, currently looking for a decent air pump... But I can't buy any of that till I get my uni money in a few weeks!

Yep I'm spending my Uni loans on FISH Very Happy Ha

I want to put a sponge filter in the side the babies will be kept in, and maybe leave my usual fluval 125 filter running in the bigger section where the babies won't be, although I've covered it with tights to put my mind at rest a little!

No signs of eggs as of yet although two peppermints were sharing a cave, but at least I will be ready!

Hi

Perspex is safe to use.... I use it all the time.

If you wanted ....you could get your perspex divider and dril holes to form a square...then use a jigsaw and cut the square out the centre... go to local sewing shop and get some plastic needle point squares ...these come in different grades....then silicone this to the middle and you now have the perfect tank divider.

Hope this helps.
Mark.
