The small albino b/n I got for my g/fs tank has been doing fine. Just yesterday however he has started to swim to the top of the aquarium very fast and right back down to the bottom and when he gets to the bottom one or two little air bubbles go up. He doesnt look stressed out but is acting weirdly. Is it a problem with the ammount of air in the tank or a problem with the water or environment?

Going to take some tests, will post soon.

Hi Jacob

Is it something he suddenly started doing?
Is it a new tank thats been set up & what other fish do you have in there??
How often do you do partial water changes on the tank?

Water test is a good starting point & post the results that you get and then we can help you!

there is only one platy in there with the b/n. And he just started doing it out of the blue two nights ago.

sry for the delay on the water parameters, just did a big water change and waiting for the water to settle a bit before I take any tests.

That is normal, all bristlenoses do it, you probably only noticed it now for the first time since they are more active while you are sleeping. They have a primitive lung and that is why they do it. All fish from the catfish family do it, it is also a good sign of an active and healthy bristlenose Smile

that doesn't sound good i think you will have to do 10% water changes daily becuase the ammonia and nitrie are too high :!:

To run counter to previous advice, I have seen mine do this as well but if I don't quickly get onto changing the water I soon have fish dying on me. They always seem to do it when the water is bad. I have not seen them do it when the water is fresh and healthy. They are hardy and its always other fish that die, but even so I want to get onto it as quickly as possible.
