Good luck with your recent acquisition mate, but don't bank on a 50/50 reproduction rate, its normally the male that comes out on top :!:

I dont want to put a spanner in your works steve, but I tried this once and I ended up having nearly a tank full of browns.

I had a female longfin and a male short fin, and I would say about every 4 out of 5 batches always produced more brown short fins, either I was unlucky or they just did not have it in them..lol

im not sure mate would have to see pictures of the fish but only summising it might be offspring of a parent fish that may have cross bred with a brown in previous spawnings mate but ive bred thousands of l144s and from numerous pairs and trios and never produced a brown fry yet i have however had 3 fry before with a brown spot on there flanks before but i believe this can be quite common as graham from reading has had the same thing happen to him and guessing you may have a cross bred longfin with slightly longer fins than a standard l144 mate Very Happy
