I made the mistake of allowing snails in the tank, my tank is overun by malaysian trumpets and ramshorns.

Will they attack the bristlenose eggs.

Snails won't attack the eggs, they are harmless. Only problem with the snails is they populate quite quickly and if not kept to a minimum do add to the overall bio load on the filters. So eggs are safe but don't let the snails get out of hand

I have used assassin snails and had success. Bought two of them, and they got rid of all the other snails in my tank. Now I just have 2 assassin snails left, I kind of like having a snail or 2 in the tank though.

An abundance of snails can be an indicator that you are overfeeding and they are feeding on uneaten food. As well as the previous suggestions you could try reducing the amount of food.

I use clown loaches to control my ramshorn snails. They eat the small snails and leave the adults alone. I'm not sure whether the clown loaches will be a problem with breeding Ancistrus. I have been told by many people that they should not be a problem, as they are very peaceful, but they do love hiding in caves. I think a vigilant male bristlenose will have no trouble keeping them away. I'm just starting to breed pleco's so I will report back when I know for sure. Clown loaches also require a large tank when they get larger so you should plan on a large tank for the future or find a new home for them in a few years.

The tank is a 400 litre and I like clown loaches but I have a decent colony of crystal red shrimp and cherries in there as well. My primary use of the tank is my CRS and my cherries.

The only fish I trust to have in there are the bn and a few small corys.

Dont think loaches are an option.

I have the same problem with snails. So i went out and bought 3 assassin snails. The assassin snails work great. They eat all the other snails in the tank. I noticed that the snail population is going down in all my tanks thanks to these guys. I also have cherry shrimp in my one tank and the assassin snails do not bother them at all.

Glad to hear they are working for you, til the no planaria comes will continue netting them handfull at a time.

Have dented the population recently, I have spotted some ss baby crystals in the main tank.

Will be testing the no planaria on a smaller tank which has cherry shrimp and a few white clouds just for piece of mind first.

But what Doug normally suggests is a safe bet

Surley someone in OZ has some assassins!!! I get mine from an importer in Singapore and you are closer to that location than me. Check out your fish importers, someone must be able to get them!!

I would imagine that the strict import laws in Australia means they are not available there.

The snails have no chance,

In Australia our Northern waters have recently had a boom of snakehead which was previously unheard of here. Any species that has the potential to harm natives has no hope especially now.

Given what the snakeheads are doing to our natives, as much as I would love the assasins in my tank I think its a good call by customs.

i had the same issue with snails, i tried a clown loach he worked alright but grew to big so gave him away to a friend, using a jar with a hole in the lid big enough for the snails to get in with a algae disc as bait worked the best. doesnt remove them all but put a big dent into their population in my tank. hope that helps a bit
