Too Fast Filter? Ideas? Empty
PostSubject: Too Fast Filter? Ideas?   Too Fast Filter? Ideas? EmptyWed Jul 11, 2012 11:45 am

I'm still in the process of setting up my tank, and bought an internal filter the other day.
The flow is so strong that my substrate is forming sand dunes, and I think any top/middle swimming fish would get blown away.
The filter doesn't have a flow adjuster and didn't come with a spraybar. I know I could maybe make one out of PVC pipe, but does anyone have any other ideas?

When I had discus and wanted to reduce the current my filters were putting into the tank. I turned the spray bars from the canister filters around towards the glass and pointed the internal filter outlet into the corner of the tank. So if all you can do is put a spray bar on your filter then if you want to reduce the current even more then you could try pointing it at the glass.

I found a spray bar at an aquarium shop, and I can just attach it with a piece of plastic hose once I find one the right size.

Thanks for all your help Smile

So I attached the spray bar and it is awesome, there is still a good flow of water through the tank, but it is spread out now, so the substrate isn't being so disturbed, and top swimming fish would be fine.

My problem now is that there is a slight whistling sound. I dont think I would hear it during the day... Is this a problem, or is this normal when using spray bars?

Have you made certain that any air bubbles are out of the system ?
Spray bars can do funny things and also check that there is nothing vibrating in the setup that you have made.

Oh I forgot about this thread:)
Eventually I worked out that the filter made the whistling noise when it got clogged with plant debris
