Getting veggies to sink? Empty
PostSubject: Getting veggies to sink?   Getting veggies to sink? EmptyFri Jun 03, 2011 10:49 pm

forgive me if this sounds like a terribly stupid question. Laughing
So I know you can blanch some veggies and they will sink, but i've seen some pictures of veggies on a metal corkscrew looking thing that sinks them down to the bottom. I would much rather give them raw veggies than blanched ones, simply because blanching can remove nutrients. Where could I get something like the metal corkscrew...or anything to keep veggies at the bottom? I've never seen them at any LFS.

The metal corkscrew is a Screwcumber as far as I know they are available universally. They are usually on eBay if you really want one.

There are easier/cheaper methods of weighing food down as suggested in this Thread

^ I have these Very Happy Screwcumber is an awesome product. Most people tho use the cheap way of sticking the veg into a stainless steel fork and dropping that in. Just make sure it's thoroughly clean of any chemicals

I purchased a few sets of plastic clips from aquatic store in my area. very cheap , I think under $3. for a package of 2 clips, they work great. Check your Aquarium Stores, some will ship if too far, but if you get really stuck , let me know and I will pick some up for ya if you wanna pay the shipping to TX ..

One of my aquarium stores is about 50 min drive in heavy traffic, but I prefer them to local chain pet stores ,and prefer to give them my business , so ,often I will call for what I want and they ship overnight ... I found them by mapquest... but when I want to buy fish, of course I make the drive. There is a store close to me , which I use too, but often they are low or out of stock things I want, --hit or miss ,ya know.... And I don't buy fish from them as they run one pump through all their tanks. That's why I prefer aquarium only stores .

well, try mapquest , see if there is an aquarium store in your area, or pm me and I would be willing to get you the plastic food clips. they have suction cups on them ,which can be removed if prefer. HTH.

There is actually a great LFS near me that sells those clips, unfortunately the last once I got broke pretty fast. But i've been using the stainless steel butter knife and it's been working pretty well. Smile

I've taken old spoons and just bent the handle over . I just slide the veggies onto the handle. Drop it in the tank. The flat end of the spoon rests on the bottom of the tank. Veggies hardly ever come off. Thought I learned that from someone on this forum Getting veggies to sink? 3335189316
