Fishy readings you'd offer

Hi to all,


As I live in Hungary, where only 1 (yep, one) quarterly magazine is available, I wonder what kind of freshwater fishy magazines exist in other corners of the globe.

As my English is good enough to battle myself through an article, I am thinking on subscribing to some English paper.
Here I would like to ask all of you, to list any freshwater magazine.
Please kindly mention the followings:
- Name of the publication
- Country
- Monthly/quarterly
- Website, if available

If you are willing to take a effort to sum your opinion, or the reason for recommendation, that would be highly appreciated!

Hi Mary, the best known in the UK is Practical Fishkeeping it's a 4 weekly publication and covers all aspects of fishkeeping including Tropical, Marine and Coldwater fish also articles on planting, habitats and breeding.

In covering all aspects obviously there is alot of information for new fishkeepers, but there is also plenty of in depth stuff for the more experienced. Most months usually has an article by Heiko Bleher that are always of great interest.

Took a glimpse at their Website, and frankly, I am amazed by the quality.
I particularily like that they deal with biology, which is my main interest (although I am just an amateur) when it comes to BNs.

Agree with both above posts. PFK magazine is awesome, my friend had a subscription and i used to go to his house n read through his magazines all the time (too poor to get my own subscription lol). Also subscribed to redfish magazine and i must say as a relatively new online magazine they do have some nice articles

Ah well I went to a fish shop once and one of the ladies there gave me a calendar and a magazine. It's called 'Sera news' I'm not too sure if it's regularly published or not.
It's definitely not made in Australia though. There's a link on the cover of the magazine it's www.sera.de

No, those are freebies from the manufacturer (Sera). The main purpose of those are to lure you into spending more money on their products.

I know those from google, but wish to know what others think of them.
Frankly, I do not wish to subscribe to all, but only the very best magazines. That is why I had posted my question/request.

Every mag is different in it's own way so I don't think there is a best. However... My choice would be the PFK mag

I would also go for the PFK mag aswell.....

That explains why I had the sudden urge to buy Sera products when I read the magazine!

I just went to that tattersalls (or whatever it's called) place where they sell magazines and all the fish ones I saw are on fishing.

So I made up my mind and will subscribe to PFK.

Can hardly wait to read the hard copy (call me old fashioned)!

You might be interested in this magazine AMAZONAS it's a German magazine now being produced in English for the American market. It's the first issue and looks really good.

Months ago news spread that there will be a Hungarian edition, but I guess that was false "alarm".
Although subscribed to PFK already, am thinking of getting the A, as well.

Facebook. No, really, stop snickering, Facebook.

PFK and Amazonus are great, and once a month they're great to read.

On the other hand I read and Chat with Heikio Bleher almost every day on FB, not sure what's left to make it into print. Similarly so with PFK, Nathan the editor (who is quite insane) is on there all the time.

And the amount of information on FB in one day is more than you get in a month from print.

I have no great love of Facebook, it can be stupid, but for some reason it's really really great for fish stuff, better than 100 magazines, and I say that at somebody who wrote for TFH for ten years.
