Is it ok to check in the cave with a torch to check on the eggs or is it harming them and the father?

I would say that all depends on the dad. Some tolerate it, mine does. I just point it slightly away from him and the eggs. I try to do it when the tank lights are on and there is lots of ambient lighting. Once I know the eggs are there I generally won't do it again.
