| The kinked tail is a classic sign of inbreeding. If i ever saw this in one of my pairs i would stop breeding them that day and move to source a new breeder from a different bloodline. | |

| doug is right but i have had 2 different spawns that had a bent tail now the pair were from 2 different places so the chance of inbreeding is near imposable imo | |

| I didn't know that, thanks for the info. The pair has bred 4 times with this being the only one with the kinked tail. the two fish were purchased ~1300 miles apart with at least a 5 year age gap between the two. I doubt they are related. If the two parent fish were inbred, but unrelated, is it possible to have the same kinked tail? | |

| Indeed, if a fishes parents were inbred then it means that it will be passing on those genetics. I am like you and source my breeders from far and wide (awesome work by the way!)
The reason i split them is that even if two fish are not related, they can still by chance end up with similar genes resulting in inbreeding like patterns, that is why i split them. In reality, what you are seeing is a random thing that has nothing to do with your breeders as you have done everything right. It was always easy for me to trade a breeder with someone so I would, just in case. | |
