If it's loose they'll hide under it

Yes

No

Mite absorb a little nitrates like plants, not sure

Had a loose bunch of it in with a pair of albino longfins and the female hid under it every now n then.

it's good for cherry shrimp if your keeping them in the tank. Can be a pain if it's loose as it finds it's way into filters.

Will do doug,

Thought I may get more comprehensive replies if i left it open like that,

Sometimes other members mention stuff I wouldnt have thought to ask.

When I bought my foursome of bristlies breeder was kind enough to throw in some cherries thx Doug, bought more cherries from another breeder and he had copious amounts of java moss in his tank looked great.

Bought some java moss $3 at the lfs today cherries love it

Was concerned may affect water chemistry adversely if something didnt go right

Got heaps of cherries now, my foursome of albino lf and threw in a few halfbeaks too.
My mystery snails are breeding like crazy,
Now I just enjoy them all and am waiting till the bristlies and the halfbeaks get big enough to eventually breed too.

I find in blocks external filters so fast I don't bother with it except in sponge filtered tanks

I keep it trimmed and under control. My cherries love the stuff, forage on it hour after hour.
