| Great pix Mooo, I like the little story of the male growing up and your female brown looks pretty damn big, I won't have a go at sexing them as this usually comes back and bites me in the donkey. J | |

| Subject: Cave pics Sun Mar 21, 2010 2:06 pm | |
| I made a cave for my two commons, as they seem to be getting along.. As soon as I place it in their tank, The female dove right in..lol I bearly got my arm out of the water lol..She is eager, Then Mr Bn, sculked about for a while, looking in, then they swapped back and forth, She was in there, then he was in there, then her again and so on, then that afternoon, I noticed she was in there with him.. Now I see a weird behaviour, the male, was upside down with his mouth outside the cave open to the air, he was sucking a heap..but looked like he was sucking water...& he has begin to fan with his bottom 4 fins. looks like he is dancing to a beat lol..

| Yup top pix again Mooo, if he's flapping to a "beat" you could well of had a spawn, try turning the opening of the cave towards the front of the tank so you can see if anything is happening in there J | |

| Thanks for your lovely comments Flapping to the beat is right..He is still doing it...So lets hope, I will turn the cave so as I can look into it, I made it with a glass bottom so I can have a squiz at the goings on in there, but being as it is his first batch, I don't wanna upset him...I will however turn the cave so I can have a look in there...Thanks for the tip.. Keep you posted lol
EDIT...Woohoooo They really loved their new cave, Cos I was right, They have eggs,,, I turned the cave around like you said K, the eggs were laid close to the entrance of the cave..So I may get to a few pics as they develop, we shall see tho..I'm so happy they got right to work lol..randy sods.. Poor fembot, she has been waiting over a year for me to get her a lover lol | |

| What did you buy these fish as Mooo? If they are in OZ (oh duh) they are probably L071/L181 (much of the same) or L182 (probably the same "pepps" I have), but if they were sold to you as L183- very good pick up Mooo. J | |

| I only got them a week or so back J.. They are Juveniles...Largest one is about 5>6cms Got them from a friend & breeder.. They are Australian Peppermint Bn's..no # I asked my Pleco Guru Quote: "Overseas peps are the white seam peps and they do keep the white seam as they get older. & The Australian one is a mix of that and something else, so we've sorta just agreed to call them Australian peppermint bns as they have no actual classified number" Means ours are mongrels There ya go.. | |

| So who's the guru Mooo? I read a little something today to help clear up the pepp thing(only a little ) L071: as they mature , the white spots only occur on the rays of the dorsal, caudal and pec fins but not the membrane between the fin (aswell as the body) L181: one of the special features of this fish is the finely spotted skin on the postocular( whatever the hell that is) L182: (we'll see if Curby reading all the posts ) if you look at the base of the dorsal leading ray and 2nd soft fin you should be able to see a large black dot covering the 2 rays( just at the base)- the distinguishing feature of the L182. But yes I have heard the theory that the pepps we get in OZ are crosses- kind of like a "common pepp", and saying that I looked at my fish today and the ones I could see only had the spots on the rays of the fins not the membranes, so I'm now thinking I have L071.
