well chuffed with this spawn as last time the female was gravid she got egg bound and i thought i was going to loose her.
ive kept my eye on her for the last few days going in and out the males cave then last night the male trapped her in the cave.
when i checked this morning the male is fanning a clutch of eggs although its only a small cluster im just happy she,s back to full health. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Nice one

I am awaiting my 2nd batch from my Starlights. Last time around he kicked them out and I think 5or 6 survive mixed up with my common fry atm

But he's being cleaning the cave for a few days and she keeps coming to inspect so any day now, she looks gravid which helps lol!

That's good news deano, are you talking about the fish that had the hole thing in the stomach?
if so that's fantastic news she's back to better health and breeding.
cheers J

the male kicked the eggs a couple of days a go. i found them in the corner of the tank so i put them in the breeding trap as they all looked good eggs. checked on them this morning and one as hatched out so by tea time they will be all hatched out. i think theirs around forty eggs or so.

Nice work deano and deano's fishes, could you provide us with a full picture as to how you've set the fry saver up,
all those eggs and fry look perfect- which is why I ask, because when the pepps spawned my eggs looked terrible and the outcome was even worse.
cheers J

i dont really do anything special and just use a cheap breeding trap. i make sure the eggs are in the middle of the breeding trap and the air stone is above the eggs the air stone can be turnd up or down with an inline tap so the eggs are just wobbling about.
ive found this to be the best method because the eggs just stay in the middle and any bits of food from feeding the adults that does get into the trap gets pushed to the corners of the trap and does'nt get on the eggs. when this appens i just syphon any food from the trap with air line pipe.
after the fry have used up their egg sack and are free swimming i move over to the sponge fillter. will post a pic of this when the time comes.
this pic shows you the trap with the air stone in the trap but its not in the middle and is low down as im doing a drip feed water change on the tank.
will post a pic when this is done.

Good to see the baby fish's are looking nice and healthy deano,
the first pic with the air stone was exactly how I had it setup for the pepps and 98% of the eggs went bad- hows that?
possibly to much crud in the fry saver?
2nd bunch of pics with the sponge filter attached looks like a good idea, I think I'll look for some D.I.Y topics for this.
cheers J

dont know why that happend mate but one mouldy egg can soon turn the lot. i know some people use snails to remove bad eggs but ive never tried this. i just remove any that are bad with tweezers
