| Hi,
Anyone kept these that can give me some useful pointers. Bought one home from my LFS yesterday marked up as a 'galaxy pleco' on the tank but has very extended caudal rays top and bottom (almost half the body length again) and white spots all over on an inky black body. I've scoured the web for pics to ID this fish and the l282 is the best I came up with. Its just a juvenile at the moment about 2" long and cost me £35.
Haven't got a pic of it yet as its still sulking in the back corner of the tank its in. Don't want to disturb it and stress it further needlessly, plus I'm unsure how to upload photo's on here anyway, just joined.
The tank its in (48"x12"x20") has moderate lighting, a temp of 26C, a mature filter, large regular weekly water changes (50% or thereabouts), PH 6.5, Gh 6, KH 1, hardly any nitrates, moderate flow, loads of hiding places and bogwood. Other tank residents are 5 emperor tetras, a breeding pair of gold rams, 5 adult pearl gourami's (1 male 4x females) also breeding regularly and a full grown siamese algae eater.
I feed Tetramin and spiralina flake as a daily staple food suplimenting once or twice a week with a mixture of additional live or frozen food, bloodworm, tubifex, daphnia and/or brine shrimp.
I have other pleco's (a gold nuggett and a snowball) in other tanks which I regularly feed cucumber/courgett and i,m planning to offer up the same to this little fella although if I have my ID correct I understand its of a more carnivourous persuation.
Ok so thats about where I am 24hours into life with this little beauty. Any further advice/experience would be gratefully appreciated.

| Hi,
Thanks for the replies guys. Thats the fella in the link unquestionably. Acanthicus adonis. The top left two pictures are exactly the same as the one in my tank. 40 inchs though, ouch that hurt.
I'll resign myself now to not being able to keep him very long and may even take it back to the LFS where I bought him from and complain.
Reckon I will be happy to house him/her until it reaches about 8 inches. How long do you think this will take?
Is it really common that LFS get thing so wrong?
Regards, Chris. | |

| No idea how long it will take to reach 8" but I do know the start to lose there spots pretty early and also become aggressive
IMO bag it up take it back and complain like thunder until they give you your money back.
Cheers

| Hi, Ok i'll take it back at the weekend thanks for your advice and help everyone. Shame though its such a pretty little fella at the moment. Don't think i'll have much trouble returning it as I get on well with the shop staff in there. Definatley sounds like a wolf in sheeps clothing. Regards, Chris. | |
