| i suspect that you will get an odd mix of things. As both calico and albino are resesive under brown/black i would not be suprised if some pop out as normal BN. It all depends on the parents of the breeders.
In terms of long fin/shortfin, normally i get 30/70 percent split longfin/shortfin crossing a longifn with a shortfin but again it come down to the genetics of the fish and to know that you need to have more info

im not doug but i think i can answer that 1, it all comes down to the bloodline. say either your calico or albino had a common parent. then even tho it looks calico or albino the fry will either all come out as common or some. due to common being a stronger gene... doug could probably explain it better lol

| Calico to albino long fin I would expect common brown in color and some long fins. Long fin is a dominant trait in danios, and while danios are not BN it is presumed to be the same in BN at the moment. Calico to albino short fin I would expect all common brown short fins. If your calico carries albino there could be some albinos in the mix. With the number of fry BN produce, if no albinos appear it's fairly safe to say your calico does not carry albino, at least not the same type as your females. | |

| Thanks everyone you have all been very helpful!! Judging by the size of the clutch I think both of the females layed eggs so now maybe I'll get the commons that I always wanted. | |

| Well my male just kicked out about 35 to 40 eggs. I am going to put them in a egg tumbler and see what happens, seeing as I don't know if they will turn out to be long fins or not. | |

| Sorry to hear the male booted the eggs never a good thing when that happens, my orange spots keep doing it Kfenk has it! its all to do with dominant alleles. As far as i can tell...(> means 'is dominant over) Common > Albino Common > Calico Calico > Albino Shortfin > Longfin But remember that each fish carries 2 copies of each gene so even though a fish may look like a common, it may have either albino or calico or longfin genes hiding under its common skin. Also, this is very simplisitic. As has been discussed several times and i have pointed this out, i think there is more than one gene at work here for colouration. Fin length seems to follow mendilian ratios so i assume that just one gene. | |

| Well theres about 100 or so wrigglers in his cave so we will have to see how it turns out. I'm hoping for a few long fins in the bunch but don't know if that will happen. | |

| This might be a silly question, but how big are the fry going to be when you can tell if they are long fins or not? | |

| Today there are about 40 little guys swimming around in their tank, with alot more still in the cave. Will you be able to tell the long fins from the short fins right away? | |

| nope, it can take up to several weeks for the longfins to start to look the part. It is possible to spot them a bit earlier but it takes a trained eye and even I get it wrong about 40% of the time. hope they all grow fast for you | |
