| A few weeks ago I noticed one of my 4 juvenile L144's was looking very pale so I decided to keep a close eye on him. I noticed he wasn't eating so I pulled him out and put him in a quarantine tank. I treied every different type of food with no joy. I've treated with Esha 2000 and Exit - no change, so after another week I wormed him (not that I saw any worms as no poop at all). He's not bloated, there dowsn't seem to be anything esle wrong except the colour and him not eating. He's just wasting away in front of my eyes. He's pretty inactive just sitting on top of the bogwood, not even moving much when I put my hand in.
Anybody got any ideas as to what might be wrong and what else I can do?

| Sounds like an internal infection to me.....
could you post me the water para's.....
and a pic..but make it quick...as it could get worse....
i also treated my tank the other day for bloat/popeye i no its different from your problem but my large female L182 had popeye... I did a 3 day treatment of ESHA2000 and nothing happened so i left it a few days and begin a second dose.....
the second dose did the trick and she is now fine but i lost my oldest male common in the process.....
And why did you treat ESHA exit??? Thats for whitespot......

It's not just for whitespot it's a broad spectrum anti-parasitic, and for example a characteristic of velvet is lethargy, not eating, clamped fins etc. A combination of Esha 2000 and Exit is a good broad combination treatment when you don't know what you're treating but know you need to treat!

| The first signs of “bloat” are usually white stringy faeces, followed by the withdrawal of the affected fish at feeding time. Heavy breathing, clamped fins (usually the pectoral fins being held tightly against the torso) the fish does,nt bloat untill its normaly too late to treat although if he's been like this for two weeks then i would say he would have bloated and died by now. only thing ive found to work on bloat is octazin. if i was you i would go with a broad spectrum treatment like myxazin p i always use waterlife products. and find them to be very good. hope he makes it for you. | |

It's actually been more like 4 weeks since he stopped eating. Funny you should say myxazin becaase that's what I decided to use. I'm on day 3 but no change as yet.

| I have had young ones do that and they seem to just stop eating and waste away for no apparent reason. In NZ we don't get a lot of the meds which are available in UK or US so I'm at a loss to rectify it! | |
