my lemons have laid Empty
PostSubject: my lemons have laid   my lemons have laid EmptyMon Jun 21, 2010 1:10 pm

hi guys, need a little advise,

my lemons i got very cheap awhile ago but since noticed that ive a male an female Laughing

so any way the wife noticed that the male lemon b/n had gone, when this happens he's normally gone down into the sump but he wasnt, i then thought of looking behind the big piece of bogwood in the corner an he looked like he was stuck in the wood but i was getting rid of the wood as it leaks slightly, so i lift's the wood up an to my surprise hes lay over aload of eggs,

we think they have been there for around 2-3days tops an they look an orangy/brown colour carnt say how many

my lemons have laid Sdc12010

so whats the chances of these surviving in my show tank?
would my angels eat them when they start swiming?
how long till they are swiming?
how will the male eat as he is fanning them?

i just carnt believe they have laid upside down in my bogwood in my community tank that has nothing done to it just 5 litres of fresh water a day (more on hot days)

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hey mate,

sorry we all missed this thread. Awesome work with the spawn. good move taking the babiees out of the main tank. For several reasons. firstly, they are perfect angel food and they wont last long in with them. Secondly, once the babies need to be moved it is very hard to catch them all without removing all the stuff in the tank.

Seems that you now know how long til they come out and start swimming around Smile

Best thing to do is to throw in a bit of cucumber so they have something to eat. algae wafer can be a bit too strong for their little tummies.

Good luck with them Smile any more questions fire away, we love to help Smile

good luck and congrats, wise choice about removing them....

some sound advice up to now, dont worry about the male eating, he will find time and quite often when your not loooking he will scurry off and grab some food then come back to protect the babies or eggs and carry on fanning them....

if you dont have much air or oxygen in the tank an extra air stone or two can help and I happened to only lose 1 baby out of over 110 recently so like advised just keep the water clean and feed accordingly and you should be good to go...

once they start breeeding you should be ok...

infact mine are breeding about every 3 weeks right now and I cant keep pace with them....

I think I might have to isolate the female soon it is getting that bad.....

all the best and keep us informed.....

keep the pictures coming...

regards

lj

Cucumber is up there with the best things for them when they are young. i also suplliment them with algae waffers every now and again.

try not to feed them too much protein as that can lead to bloat and bloat is often fatal in fry Sad
