| G'Day Me again Having my second go at breeding these gorgeous creatures. I did ok with my first attempt breeding my commons, Now for the alfbns. I just introduced my male & female albino longfin ..All seems well, wonder how long it will take..I used 'benandy breeding logs' for these two, I might also put in my glass bottom DIY cave, if they haven't bred by tomorrow. I know they love that one and I can watch em develop in it... Keep You posted on their progress... Male Female

| Subject: Amended to Albino & Common longfin bn Breeding...:o) Wed Sep 22, 2010 5:55 am | |
| Hiya everyone Update on the albinos breeding log.. I got good and bad news... I had to take the female albino lf out of the tank because she was not ready to mate, he beat her up bad, bad enough that I had to perform an amputation on her pectoral fin cos it had been broken in half.. she still has the flowing part of soft fin, but the bony part is now half the length it was. http://www.bristlenoseworld.com/the-pleco-hospital-f7/broken-fin-t1971.htm she is fine and now lives in my main display tank till she is older... Sooooooo 2 days ago I added my female common longfin into the males tank & this morning did a 40% water change & whammo!!! 3 hours later EGGS !!!! I'm so stoked I could run up n down the street yelling "I got eggies I got eggies, whooop whooop whoooop!" Keep You posted on there progress So chuffed

| Will do Doug, I knew you would be interested in the results...ratios of commons to albinos, The female common has albino gene so I'm told too, so maybe I'll get more albinos than normal... | |

| Oh okay. thanks mooo, but as you took them into the breeding trap, would you still wait for the sack to dissolve first. (it's all fascinating to me as not had a spawn yet, sorry if my questions are dumb or have been covered elsewhere)

| The only stoopid question is the one you don't ask... Their egg sac doesn't dissolve exactly, It is their food, till they can eat with their mouths...It gets absorbed. I would even hazard a guess that they have no mouths or anus when hatched so they need to develop those while their sacs are being absorbed.. No still don't feed em till the egg sac is gone, fry saver or not. they are in the saver cos it is too hard to try to put them back with dad...best to just put em somewhere safe, I will release them when the others come out of the cave.... | |

| very good advice as usual..
this site is so good for giving excellent advice, it can only mean that your are all egg head on BN ...lol
no offence meant.....
it also means we have no egg sac and escaped from the cave ages ago...pmsl

| Excellent pics. I'm just curious about your cave mooo, you can see it really clear in the photo but I can't tell if it's only open at one end or both? Also, in the tank do you have a current of water flowing towards the cave or not? I know the daddy likes to fan the eggs but I'm just wondering if they would be 'put off' or 'prefer' by a cave that is in flowing part of the tank (from your experience) ? | |

| Hiya & Thanks for your question The cave is open at only one end, the current is a sponge filter & a HOB which is the main current fro cave & is positioned facing towards the cave,..From what I have seen of them, they love the current...seems to work ok | |

| Day 6 When I turned the light on this morning, there were 2 fry out of the cave, I then looked in the other log and there were 2 in there ..I notice Daddy doing a lot of vigorous wiggling, I mean a real lot...I think he is kicking them out ..Bit premature but they all have only a little egg sac left.. He really wants them out, I wonder if he realizes, if he just came out so would they  Oh and I was wrong about him having bred before, He was a virgin as well as mum..So in light of that, I say he isn't a good dad, He is an exceptional Dad.. OH btw, just FYI ..The cave used for this batch is a Benandy breeding log..http://benandybreeding.yolasite.com/issue1.php Update lol Ok I gave in, Instead of catching one every hour or so lol, I just took em , put them in the saver..Left Daddy with 3..only cos they wouldn't come out lol...Least I can get some good photos :o). I'll add them back when they begin to eat... | |

I did a fast wc, and cleaned the filters as well...mum n dad seem ok..and the rest seem good ..the two floaters may have been just weak ones...I sure hope so. Oh & I do think there are Calicos in amongst them now..
