| Subject: heater emergency.... Sat Sep 25, 2010 4:35 pm | |
| Just noticed that my temp has dropped on my main Breeding tank from 80 degrees to 71 in 24 hrs.....
probably due to the coldest two days in the year, and the Newatt 200w heater does not seem to be kicking in correctly... possible heater thermostat fault?
to make matters worse my other spare heaters are faulty too..
so the newatt 200w heater is now in a bucket with a thermometer trying to stabilise it at about 77 degrees .. if it does stabilise I will take it out and out it back in the main tank, if nt looks like I may be in problem street...
only thing I can think of is to take a bucket of water out each day and had fresh 77 degree water in to try to equalise the temp as much as possible till I get a heater stabilised...
what do you guys and gals think.....

| just go to the shop and get a new one. Its not worth it playing around with a dodgy heater. If its starting to faulter then its prob on its way out and will cut out on a really cold day resulting in disaster.
a decent 300w heater here cost like $35

| I do know how much they cost...lol... But being out of work and being on a budget $35 is nearly half of my current dole, and having out goings of £430 a month and incomings of £410 then something as to give...lol.. and that is not including shopping for food and petrol.... I did have one new heater and one old heater both of which appear faulty so did have a back up....... just the new heater I bought and was still in the box unused.... and the adjuster on the top is not very accurate so I like to leave them 2 days in a bucket testing them first, you cant be too careful speak soon... and many thanks... | well just to update you -
it is probably wise that I check my temps quite regular at the minute as the new heater I went out and bought (aqua one 200w) started playing up, and is not operating correctly, so back to the LFS to swap it and exchanged it for another......
wonder if the surge protector socket is blowing them or making them run faulty as I had another one do the same yesterday and if I had not realised in time when I caught the temperature at 96 degrees I could have lost my breeding Ancistrus, and bumblebee catfish, butterfly fish, albino red tailed shark, L071's and a breeding group of guppies.
I seem to be having a run of bad luck with my heaters lately.... as I have had 2 newatt heaters go faulty all within a month- 1 completely will not warm, and the 2nd heats up and will not turn off correctly. replaced one with a Trionic and the other with Aqua One just so I can see if one brand is more reliable....
kind regards
