| well, you have two albino longfin fry there by the looks of it. The third one is interesting. Judging by what you said you have in your tank in your intro posts my money is on a common shortfin but i have never seen one with such fine point markings. Its incredible!! I would be keeping that one to breed with 120%!!!! Or you can send it to me | |

| not sure 2 long fin albino for sure, the third I reckon could be a normal longfin... think the tail fisn is too long to be a common.. though it can be hard to tell when young... Doug's advice is usually close though | |

| I bought them from a local fish shop and when I asked them what they were he said that they were just listed as bn's but he thought they looked like starlights... I have googled them and gone through so many images on there! They are really dark brown/black and the spots are really fine and white. They are really beautiful but im dying to know what they really are lol!!! | |

| All my babies seem to be growing well ( Ive got 5 albino longfins, 3 brown longfins and 4 of the L059's) They have been having some flake, algae wafers and cucumber which they absolutely love! Is there anything else you guys would recommend for them??? They are all very active both day and night (the L059's are a bit shyer but 'out and about') except for one of the dark spotty ones but he is growing well and feeding well so im not too worried about him (he is the biggest one of them!) Also is there any way of telling what sex they are??? The woman I got the longfins from looked at them really closely with an eye piece thingy (like jewellers use) and told me that 4 of the albinos were female and 2 of the browns were female) Could she really tell or was she having me on???! | |

| Subject: a jewellers magnifying lense for identifying fish? Thu Dec 02, 2010 9:36 pm | |
| the jewellers magnifier can be used depending on the quality, and ofcourse how good the persons eye who was identifying the pleco ...
much depends on experience, though it is worth noting down what she says and possibly seeing how accurate her identifying was as the fish get older.... | |

| Just wanted to post a pic now they are a bit bigger to see if you guys still think they are L059's I know some can be hard to tell when they are young I have lightened up the pic slightly so they are a bit darker 'in real life'! They are all getting bristles round their lips but none have got any up their snout yet | |

| Its really hard to tell from my rubbishy pics but they are a real dark chocolatey brown with creamy white spots but on his fins and tail the spots are orangy red... I have looked at the pics on google and the catfish sites trying to determine if they are Rio Ucayali or L059's. Going on the pics I have seen, the rio has quite dull spots where as mine are really bright Probably the best pic I have of them... Shame its only his bum lol! | |

| Yes Jim... Thats them to a T!!! Its difficult because so many people say that they cant possibly be L059 because they are hard to come by but the pics I have seen of them are so similar when the pics of the rio (whatever its called!) are not the same at all... In the end it doesnt really matter that much to me at the moment because I think they are great looking fish and wouldnt part with them... Will only be an issue IF they breed... | |

| Im 99% sure they are Rio's..L059's........ L059's are very distinctive in there orange edges... As doug said there are issues with the Oz orange spot and the L182 starlight..... when i breed my L182's this was a juvi that came from my wild pair.. Looks very much like yours but no were near as much orange in it as your pic...... | |

| [Quote 'Im 99% sure they are Rio's..L059's........ L059's are very distinctive in there orange edges...' Quote] Which ones do you think they are Curby??? The Rio Ucayali or the L059????? They are very orangy in their fins and tail but not on their bodies... Its a real shame that I cant get a good pic of them... They are a lot shyer than all my others so pics are not that easy to come by lol! | |

| Can't wait for more info since I think I saw some of these in the LFS the other day labelled as Orange spot / Marble pleco.. only to have a long chat with the LFS owner to explain that Orange Spot and Orange Marble Pleco can be found as two different fish.... similarities with this but they are so hard to photo | |
