| how much wood is to much for a 3 footer? i have 1 large stump bout 3 inch round 17 inch high and it has a leg off it about 18 inch. plus 3 small pieces the water is crystal clear. so no tanin leaching, can i add more wood? is it possible that to much wood will affect water params ? | |

| hrmmm, this is actually a really good question If the water is stable thenas far as i can see there is no limit to how much wood you can have. I have had upwards of 15 bits of wood in my grow out tank each about 20cms long. As long as its well soaked and doesnt affect the water then i cant see an issue. if it does then regualr water changes will help | |

| hi there, I wonder, can the wood drop the ph, cuz I have tap water ph 7.9 but it drops in main tank to 6.8 and have lots of wood. In q-tank, no wood ,and ph stays 7.9 , I have to drop the ph in q tank each time i get a new plec, I add wood to do the trick. Otherwise, the 2 resident fish in q-tank can hanldle the high ph. So, itn't the wood causing the ph to drop ? hope you can set me straight here. Thanks , Georgie | |

| yeah, wood softens the water and drops the pH. This ability reduces as it gets old. when the wood is fresh and its releasing lots of tannins it can drop the pH quite substantially. | |
