| I have a ABN and a young panaque L090 in a tank by themselves because both tend to be overeaters. I am wondering if their dietary needs are almost identical from what I've been reading? Or do Panaques need a few more meaty food more frequently?
currently I am feeding them mostly veggies. I feed them yellow squash, zucchini, cucumber, broccoli stems , sugar snap pea pods, shelled peas, carrots, sweet potato and wafer or algae pellets once or twice a week and maybe some frozen bloodworms every now and then.

| Panaques don't eat more meat than bristlenose, they eat more wood. So in the tank you should also have for it some soft wood for it to chew on along with the hard woods. Keep up with the vege feeding as this is quite good for them aswel | |

| the best stuff for you to use (infact a panaques all time favorite) is cactus/cholla wood. since it should be very easy for you to obtain (thats if you are from texas like your location says) iv been told by a few panaque breeders from the US that its awesome stuff and great for raising panaque fry. its hard to get here in aus but i have a piece in my L397 tank that i purchased off ebay as a bird perch heres a pic of the stuff | |

| I have also heard and read a lot of good things about cholla in a panaque diet, as kfenk says it should be more readily available in your part of the world. We also tend to see it more as bird perches or animal chew toys than for aquaria use.
If you do try it let us know how you get on with it.

| awesome! I have heard of that cactus wood for plecos I have seen it on aquabid websites. I am actually going to do some hiking in the country specifically to look for this though I live in the city cacti grows everywhere around here mostly but I want some where there is no chance of fertilizer or pollution at the ground level. How should I prep it ? just boil it and soak for a few days? | |

| If it was me I would treat it like any other aquarium wood.
I found this article HERE and they recommend boiling before use.

| thanks for the link and info I am excited to find some of this or purchase some I think there is a few small stores in my area that sell it for reptiles and hermit crabs as well as birds. I'd also like to find some large pieces in the country for larger tanks too I'll post some pics of it once I get it.
